AI Assistant

Answers grounded in your docs

Readers ask questions in plain language and get short answers written from your published pages — with links to every page the answer came from.

How it works

  1. 1

    Turn on Ask AI

One switch in your site’s Customize settings adds an “Ask AI” button to the header and to ⌘K search.

  2. 2

    Find the right pages

Each question is matched against the same index as site search, in the version or language the reader is on, and the best passages are picked.

  3. 3

    Answer with sources

Claude by Anthropic writes a short answer from those passages, streams it in, and cites each page it used.

What readers get

Cited answers

Numbered citations open the page behind each sentence, and the sources are listed under the answer.

Follow-up questions

Readers can keep asking: the conversation carries over, even after they open a cited page.

From search to answer

Anything typed into ⌘K search can be asked to the assistant in one click.

What you control

Only what you published

Answers come from the published version of your pages — never drafts, hidden pages or open change requests.

Visibility respected

On an unlisted site, the assistant stays behind the same share link as every page.

Questions without answers

Insights lists the questions it couldn’t answer from your pages and the answers readers rated unhelpful.

Reader ratings

Readers mark each answer helpful or not, so you can see how well your docs answer questions.

Private by design

Questions aren’t stored with IP addresses, and the assistant asks for a captcha before heavy use.

Honest when unsure

When your pages don’t cover a question, the assistant says so instead of guessing.

Frequently asked questions

Which plans include the AI Assistant?

Pro and above. Each plan includes a monthly allowance of answers across your organization’s sites, and the Customize settings show how many you’ve used. There are no AI credits to buy.

Which model does it use?

Claude by Anthropic. Readers’ questions and the matching page excerpts are sent to Anthropic to write the answers; Anthropic is listed on our sub-processors page.

Will it use my unpublished content?

No. It answers only from pages published on that site, in the version or language the reader is on. Hidden pages, drafts and change requests are never used.

Is it on by default?

No. Turn it on per site in the Customize settings, and turn it off at any time.

What happens when the docs don’t have the answer?

The assistant says it couldn’t find it in your docs, and the question shows up in Insights so you know what to write next.
