A visual editor built for technical writing
Writers, engineers and subject-matter experts edit the same pages in a fast block editor — with Markdown shortcuts for people who think in Markdown.
Every block a docs page needs
Type “/” to insert anything. What you see while editing is exactly what readers see on the published site.
Slash commands
Insert headings, lists, code, tables, hints, tabs and more without leaving the keyboard.
Markdown shortcuts
Type #, -, 1., > or ``` and the block appears. Bold, italic, code and links work the same way.
Structured blocks
Hints in four styles, tabs, steppers, expandable sections, cards, columns, task lists, math (TeX), Mermaid diagrams and OpenAPI references.
Media and embeds
Upload images, embed videos and other URLs, and build tables right on the page.
Edit safely, together
Every space has a live main branch and change requests for anything that needs review.
Change requests
Branch a space, edit freely, then ask for review before anything goes live.
Learn moreVersion history
Every merge and periodic live edit is saved as an immutable revision you can browse in the history timeline, and restore — the whole space or a single page.
Conflict-aware saves
Optimistic concurrency stops silent overwrites; concurrent changes merge block by block.
Inline comments
Select a sentence and discuss it right there, on the live page or in a change request. Reviewers can comment without edit rights, and comments never reach the published site.
Bring what you already have
Your existing Markdown comes along — including GitBook-style blocks.
Coming next to the editor
Designed into the document format today, shipping in a later release.
Real-time co-editing
See teammates’ cursors and edit the same page at the same time.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Docsheaf editor?
A block-based visual editor for documentation. Each paragraph, list, code sample or hint is a block you can insert with “/”, and the published site renders exactly what you see.
Does Docsheaf support Markdown?
Yes. Markdown shortcuts work while you type, you can import Markdown files (including GitBook’s Liquid-style tags), and every published page is also available as Markdown.
Can developers edit from their code editor?
Yes, with Git Sync: connect a space to a folder of Markdown in a GitHub repository, and commits pushed there come back into Docsheaf (as a change request when the space changed too). Developers can also import Markdown, read every page as Markdown, and automate content through the REST API.
Does Docsheaf support version control and reviews?
Yes. Every space keeps a history of immutable revisions, and change requests let you branch, review, approve and merge edits like pull requests.
